David Rose is a retired lieutenant with the Placer County,
California, Sheriffs Department. He was with the Sheriffs Department since
1978.
He was the departments lead physical skills instructor since 1982. Dave
was a member of the department's Special Weapons and Tactics Team (S.E.T)
since 1980. He has been a team member, entry team leader, assistant team
leader, team leader, and retired as the team commander. He has planned,
participated in, or commanded over 200 Critical Incidents in his career.
Dave has been awarded 2 Bronze Medals of Honor, 1 Bronze Medal of Valor,
and 3 Silver Stars for Bravery. He received the J. Edgar Hoover Memorial
Gold Medal for Distinguished Public Service from the American Police
Hall of Fame (Nov. 2002). He appeared in the premier edition of
the American
Police Hall Fame "Heroes in Blue" baseball card edition. He is
a U.S. Army Military Police Vietnam Veteran and was awarded a Bronze Star
for his tour of duty.
Dave is one of the developers of USA Aiki Jujitsu, a law enforcement
martial art, teaching weaponless defense, impact weapons, firearms,
and tactics
to peace officers, probation officers and correctional officers in
the Western United States. USA Aiki Jujitsu has technique videos
available
for purchase in both Weaponless (empty hand) Defense and various Impact
Weapons.
David has been training in martial arts since he was 10 years old and
has trained in Wado-ryu Karate, Seitokan Karate and Shroinji-ryu
Karate, which
involved instruction in the use of nunchaku, bo, jo, tonfa, and sai.
He has also trained in Daito-ryu Aiki Jujitsu, Judo and has been
active in
Shotokan Karate of America since 1980, participated in 11 special
trainings. He was awarded his Nidan in 1987 and Sandan in 1994
and was instrumental
in establishing the Foothill Dojo in Auburn, CA with Bob Root in
early 1987.
David has co-authored numerous articles printed in various law enforcement
periodicals, along with Sgt, Rocky Warren They have co-authored
two books, Police Use of Force Case Law, currently being published
by
Varro Press.
Their second book, Paradigm of the Moral Warrior, is under publication
with CyberRead Inc.
Dave is recognized as an expert witness in both state and federal
courts in the areas of Police Practices, Use of Force, Training,
Deadly Weapons,
Firearms, and Electronic Restraint Devices.
In affiliation with co-author Don Cameron, Dave is actively updating
the Weaponless Defense Instructor written manual as well as
the Impact Weapons
Instructor written manual. Both are anticipated to be complete
by the end of 2004 and ready for purchase.
